Glasdon, Inc. are proud to keep the VBLA afloat for the summer season with our support.
Summer is a time of leisure for many, with both children and adults taking to the coast for a relaxing sunbathe or a cooling dip in the sea. Unfortunately, this does not come without its risks – drownings and water-related accidents remain an ever-present danger, with such incidents bringing anguish to what should be a joyful day.
Fortunately, The Virginia Beach Lifeguard Association (VBLA), keeps a watchful eye over the sand and sea of Virginia Beach. As a nonprofit organisation (and a local chapter of the USLA), their primary aim is to keep residents and visitors safe in the water, through a variety of different means.
In addition to monitoring open-water spaces and holding charity events, the volunteer members of VBLA (which include current, former, and junior lifeguards) hold talks and presentations on the importance of water safety. Not only do these lifesavers showcase to schoolchildren and community events, but also to the military and Fortune 500 companies.
Members of the VBLA also attend various regional and national competitions to improve guard training and hone their lifesaving skills.
The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme are proud to donate a sum of $2,500 to the VBLA, helping tide them over for the 2024 summer season. The funds will provide critical assistance to prevent drownings, and allow them to run educational programmes.
In a handwritten note, Tom Gill, VBLA president, expressed
his gratitude for the contribution:
“Thank you for the generous donation to the Virginia Beach Lifeguard Association. We look forward to promoting beach safety through public education such as our junior lifeguard program as well as supporting the active lifeguards standing watch each year, ‘Lifeguards for Life’.”
