About the Project

Donoma Las Terrenas Beach Resort & Spa, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, is a luxurious beachfront resort in the Dominican Republic, opened on November 12, 2025 by Constructora ARPELS. The resort sought durable waste management solutions suitable for the Caribbean environment and was introduced to Glasdon.

The resulting project involved several key collaborators who worked in tandem to outfit the resort with new fit-for-purpose outdoor bins.

Glasdon was made aware of the resort project by an architect and professional contact. This connection proved pivotal. The architect recommended Glasdon to the construction company responsible for the resort.

Initially tasked with supplying equipment for the children’s water park areas, Glasdon offered additional outdoor waste solutions alongside the initial request. This led the construction company to partner further with us and formally specify additional Glasdon products for waste management across the wider resort.

The Challenges

The resort required durable, low-maintenance outdoor waste management solutions that could withstand the demanding Caribbean climate while fitting into the resort’s visual identity.

The primary challenges were:

  • Finding waste receptacles that could effectively prevent water intrusion from frequent, intense tropical downpours. Due to the high Caribbean heat, wet trash ferments quickly, leading to rapid development of unpleasant odors, which directly affects the guest experience.
  • Sourcing products that offered a natural, high-end wood appearance suitable for a luxury resort environment without incurring the maintenance costs or deterioration associated with real timber in a humid, coastal setting.
  • Identifying robust, aesthetically pleasing, and safe waste solutions for the new children’s water park areas.

The Solutions

The resort opted for the Sherwood™ Hood Top Trash Receptacle for general resort areas. Because its material closely mimics the look of natural wood and requires no maintenance, Sherwood perfectly met the client’s need for durability and luxury aesthetics.

Glasdon specifically recommended the hooded version of the Sherwood trash can to help shield the contents from heavy downpours. This helped address the critical challenge of odor control caused by wet, fermenting trash.

Splash™ and Froggo™ trash receptacles were supplied for the children’s water park areas. Due to their bright, appealing design that makes them perfect for children’s play environments, these units were deemed ideal for the resort’s needs.

Just like Sherwood, Splash and Froggo were selected because their design prevents significant water intrusion, ensuring they perform well in the hot and humid Caribbean climate and water park environment.

The Result

The successful collaboration between Glasdon, the architect, and the construction company resulted in the seamless integration of waste management solutions that met both the resort’s functional and visual requirements. The maintenance-free, natural wood appearance of the Sherwood trash cans successfully blended into the luxurious, tropical design of the resort.

Selecting hooded, water-resistant waste receptacles significantly mitigated the risk of strong odors caused by wet, fermenting waste. This ensured a cleaner, more pleasant environment for guests in the resort and water park.

Following the resort’s opening, the owner of the construction company expressed high satisfaction with Glasdon’s work and the quality of all the installed products. Furthermore, no significant challenges or difficulties were reported during the installation of the trash cans, which allowed the project to be completed successfully, on schedule and without complications.
